In-Person Field Trips

The Sacramento History Museum is excited to bring back In-Person Field trips!

 Our in-person programs are designed to accommodate different grade levels. All programs adhere to the California Curriculum Standards. Programs range in time from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. Please download and fill out our FIELD TRIP REQUEST FORM here. You can type directly into the Word Document.

*Please note that all people participating with In-Person Field Trips must wear mask the entire time they participate in the museum programs*

 

History Mystery
Length: 1 hour
Grade’s 1st-2nd

Uncover one of Sacramento’s greatest mysteries! Students will decode the past using clues from a trunk hidden away for 100 years.

 

Old Sacramento Underground Tour
Length: 1 hour
Grade’s 3rd and above

Get the low-down on Sacramento’s efforts to save the city from devastating floods in the 1850s and 1860s! Students uncover evidence of the city’s successful attempts to raise its streets, including historic buildings, underground spaces, and underground hollow sidewalks.

 

Old City Cemetery Tour (offered on select days)
Length: 1 hour
Grades 3rd and above

Join us at the Old City Cemetery for an unforgettable tour. Students will learn about the history of the cemetery, Victorian symbolism, and some of its famous inhabitants. *Tour meets at the cemetery located on Broadway.

 

The Gold Rush
Length: 1.5 hours
Grade’s 4th and above

“Gold! Gold! Gold in the American River!” With these words the largest human migration in history began. Students will join the California Gold Rush while learning gold mining techniques. *This program includes the Gold Panning program.

 

Heading West
Length: 1.5 hours
Grade’s 4th-6th

Why did thousands of people risk their lives both on land and by sea to journey to the western frontier? Students learn about how people traveled in the 1800’s and why. Student will then test their luck by taking their own journey! Who will safely arrive to California?

 

Museum Scavenger Hunt
Length: 1 hour
All Grade Levels

The Museum has hundreds of historic artifacts that tell the story of Sacramento’s history. You may be surprised by what you discover! Students move through the Museum exploring new places and learning new things with a scavenger hunt they get to take home.

 

Old Sacramento Scavenger Hunt
Length: 1 hour
All Grade Levels

Follow the clues and learn the history of the Old Sacramento district! On this scavenger hunt, students work in teams with a chaperone to discover historical landmarks, buildings, and markers that make Old Sacramento special. This program can accommodate up to 50 people.

 

Pan for Gold
Length: 30 Minutes
All Grade Levels

Thirty minutes of pure gold! Students will pan for precious metals, minerals, and real gold in our panning troughs. Plastic vials are included to hold the students’ treasures.

 

Historic Print Shop
Length: 30 Minutes
All Grade Levels

What’s black and white and read all over? Newspapers from our historic print shop, of course! Visit the Print Shop for a demonstration on newspaper publication during the Gold Rush!

1.5 Hour Programs -Heading West and Gold Rush

$110 Dollars: 10-19 students, 1 teacher, 2 free chaperones

$ 180 dollars: 20-30 Students, 1 teacher, 4 free chaperones

Additional Students, $6 dollars each, Additional Chaperones $5 dollars each

*Cannot exceed 35 people per program*

 

 1 Hour Programs- History Mystery**, Old Sacramento Underground Tour*, Old City Cemetery Tour**, Museum Scavenger Hunt**, Old Sac Scavenger Hunt

$95 dollars: 10-19 students, 1 teacher, 2 free chaperones

$150 dollars:  20-30 students, 1 teacher, 4 free chaperones

Additional Students $5 dollars each, Additional Chaperones + $5 dollars each (+$10 dollars each for Underground Tours)

*Underground Tour cannot exceed 25 people per program

**Cannot exceed 35 people per program*

Old Sac Scavenger Hunt can have up to 50 students per program

 

30-Minute Programs- Gold Panning, Print Shop

$75 dollars: 10-19 students, 1 teacher, 2 free chaperones

$120 dollars: 20-30 Students, 1 free teacher, 2 free chaperones

Additional Students $4 dollars each, Additional Chaperones $5 dollars each (No charge for Gold Panning)

*Cannot exceed 35 people per program*
