The Sacramento History Museum is located in the heart of Historic Old Sacramento.  We are located next to the beautiful Sacramento River and two buildings away from the California State Railroad Museum.  We are also minutes away from fine and family dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Regular Museum Hours:
Open Monday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Please note we accept our last admission at 4:30 p.m.

Holiday Hours:
The Sacramento History Museum will be closed on the following holidays:

  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day
  • New Year’s Day
  • Occasional special events, as posted on our website and at the museum

Admission Prices:
Ticket prices are:

  • Adults (18+): $12.00
  • Youth (6-17): $6.00
  • Children (0-5): FREE!

We offer discounted admission ($2 off) for the following:

  • Seniors (65+): $10.00
  • College / University Students: $10.00
  • Military, Veterans, and Family: $10 per adult, $4.00 per youth
  • AAA members: $10.00 per adult, $4.00 per youth

The Sacramento History Museum is proud to be part of Museums for All, an initiative of the Institute of Library and Museum Services to make museums accessible for all.  Present your SNAP or EBT card and a photo ID to receive free Museum admission for up to four people.

Accessibility:

The Sacramento History Museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.  Wherever possible, access to exhibits is facilitated by elevator and ADA accessible aisle width.  Additional assistance may be available upon request from our friendly staff.  Please call our front desk for more information at (916) 808-7059.

Pets are not allowed in the Museum.

Service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability are welcome. A service animal is required to be under control at all times by its handler. Animals such as “comfort animals”, “therapy animals”, “companion animals”, or “emotional support animals” are not service animals as defined by the ADA because they are not trained to perform a specific task for an individual with a disability and are therefore not allowed in the Museum.

Getting to the Museum:

By Bike

The Sacramento History Museum is located a short distance from the American River Parkway, just past the I Street Bridge.

Racks are located at the Museum’s main entrance.

By Public Transportation

For Sacramento Regional Transit, the museum can be accessed by routes 11, 30, 31, 62, 86 and 88. The bus stop on 3rd St. between I and L is only a one block walk from the Old Sacramento Waterfront. Other Downtown routes are no more than a half mile walk from the historic district. More information at www.sacrt.com.

For Yolobus riders, the museum can be accessed by routes 42A, 42B, 43, 43R, 44 and 230 at the Capitol Mall at Front EB stop. Route 45 riders can get off at J Street at 4th Street.

The Sacramento History Museum is a very short walk from the Sacramento Valley Station and I and 5th St., serviced by Amtrak, Capitol Corridor and Regional Transit Light Rail Gold Line.

By Car

From Interstate 5 Northbound (toward Redding)

  • Take the J Street offramp
  • Go two blocks and turn left on 5th Street
  • Go one block and turn left on I street
  • Stay in the left lanes to reach the vehicle entrance to Old Sacramento at 2nd Street and I Street

From Downtown

  • Take I Street
  • Stay in the left lanes to reach the vehicle entrance to Old Sacramento at 2nd Street and I Street.
  • OR
  • Take Capitol Mall Boulevard
  • Turn right at Neasham Circle near the Tower Bridge
Parking

Two-hour metered street parking available throughout Old Sacramento Waterfront 7-days a week from 10 a.m.–10 p.m.

Surface lot parking is available at Front & L Street, accessible from Firehouse Alley.

Entrance on I Street between 3rd and 2nd.

  • Friday from 3 p.m. to close
  • Saturday and Sunday, all-day

 

Tower Bridge Garage

Entrance on Capitol Blvd at Neasham Circle, near the Tower Bridge.
