This October, the “ghosts” of early Sacramento come to life to tell their stories once again for the Sacramento History Museum’s annual Ghost Tours. Join us on tour for an eerie evening of baffling, unusual, and bizarre deaths that really happened. You may come away with a few chills, a few laughs, and a whole new appreciation for just how strange life—and death—can be.

This unusual addition to our exhibits — a quilt — was found at the First United Methodist Church on J and 21st in a recent cleaning. It had been stored in a small white box for over 40 years with a small note attached. The quilt has over 500 names written on the squares and was made to celebrate the nation’s centennial anniversary. 

Learn about the history of letterpress printing, the role the newspaper played in spreading the news of gold in California leading to the Gold Rush, and see what an 1850s newspaper office would have looked like in Sacramento City all while seeing the printing presses operate.

The Sacramento History Museum presents an all-new Play Ball! Sacramento in the National Pastime! Located in the R. Burnett & Mimi Glide Miller Gallery in the Museum, the exhibition is filled with historical baseball uniforms, bats, balls, and gloves and more. Plus, if you are heading out to a game at Sutter Health Park, show us your same day game ticket and you’ll receive half off Museum admission! Play Ball! is presented by SMUD and runs through October 2026.
