2022 History Camp

General Information:

The Sacramento History Museum is excited to announce History Camps for 2022!

  • Old Sacramento History Camp is held in Old Sacramento. We are excited to have a new space at 1002 2nd Street to host history camp! We will also conduct camp outside in front of the Sacramento History Museum and inside the Museum located at 101 I Street.
  • Campers will be required to wear masks indoors. Staff and volunteers are required to wear masks at all times both outdoors and indoors.

Summer History Camp Schedule 2022

All Week- Half Day Camp
Gold Rush, Boom Town
DATE: June 20-24
AGES: 7-12 years old
TIME: 9:00am-12:00pm
PRICE: $150 for members, $180 for non-members

Start your kids’ summer off right with this interactive half-day camp! When gold was discovered nearby, Sacramento City became a boom town, literally growing overnight! Campers will learn what it was like to have gold fever and be a part of Sacramento’s early days. From science on experiments on gold, to dressing like it’s the 1850’s, this camp is fun for everyone.

DATE: July 11-15
AGES: 7-12 years old
TIME: 9:00am-4:00pm (drop off between 8:30-9am, pick-up between 4-4:30pm*)
PRICE: $250 for members, $280 for non-members

*if camper needs to be picked up after 4:30pm arrangements must be discussed ahead of time and there will be a $5 charge

Ever wonder if you could live in a time before electricity? This camp immerses your child in what life was like for the people of Sacramento in the late 1800’s. Campers will learn different modes of transportation, fun past-times, and historic artistry. Our campers will also take field trips to Sutter’s Fort and the Historic City Cemetery traveling by horse and wagon. Activities include early photography, candle-making, paper quilling, and much more!

 

One Day Camps
TIME: 9:00am-4:00pm (drop off between 8:30-9am, pick up between 4-4:30pm*)
PRICE: $40 for members, $50 for non-members

STEM History
Tuesday, June 28, Ages 6-9
Thursday, June 30, Ages 10-13

Did you know Sacramento used to flood every Spring? Your camper is going to learn what happened in the 1870’s to prevent the city from flooding. Campers will complete such engineering feats as moving a river, building a levee, and raising a building. Sound impossible? Early Sacramento citizens didn’t think so and neither will your child by the end of camp!

Immigration/Heading West
Tuesday, July 19, Ages 6-9
Thursday, July 21, Ages 10-13

Why do people move? In this one-day camp, campers will learn the motivations and modes of transportation of people immigrating in the 1800’s.

 

Day Camp-
Gold Rush
Monday, July 25, Ages 6-9
Tuesday, July 26, Ages 10-13

“Gold! Gold! Gold in the American River!” With these words the largest human migration in history began. Campers will join the California Gold Rush while learning gold mining techniques. They will understand what makes the California Gold Rush so special and maybe even leave with real gold!

 

REGISTRATION

  1. Complete and print the attached packet for EACH child that will be attending. Completed packets must be received within one week after purchasing the camp session(s).
  2. Be sure to select a camp session. If you would like to enroll your child in multiple sessions, please mark each one.
  3. *Registration will not be complete until payment has been received. Payments may be made in person, or over the phone. *please send in your camp registration packet as soon as possible or your campers t-shirt size cannot be guaranteed!
  4. To register by phone please call the Museum front desk at (916)808-7059 and have a credit card ready. The entire payment must be made at time of registration.
