History Camp

Have your child join us at History Camp 2020... at your place or ours!

 

We are excited to announce our new summer line-up with Virtual and In-Person options for Summer Camp! Please be aware, our in-person options are limited to only 10 campers and will be strictly following all CDC, city, county, and state health guidelines. If guidelines change before camp and we are unable to hold the camp in-person, it will changed to a virtual camp!

All camps are offered for ages 6-13. Any virtual option comes with a camp kit that will be available for either curbside pickup at the Sacramento History Museum or you can choose the Kit Home Drop-Off and a staff member will bring the kit to you! Camp Kits

Purchase your camp kit today! Each kit includes a fun camp bandana, 10 activity kits, step-by-step written instructions, and suggested scavenger hunts and outings you can take with your friends or family to explore Sacramento’s history. There are three themed kits available- purchase one, two or all three! The kits are self-guided and cost $75 for Museum members or $100 for non-members. We will be offering curbside pickup options for kits OR you can pay $25 for a staff member to drop the kit off at your house (within 20 miles of the Sacramento History Museum).

History Alive Camp Kit

This fun theatrical camp invites campers to learn about Sacramento before and up to the California Gold Rush. Campers will explore through melodrama activities about topics like the Bear Flag Revolt, the Squatter’s Riot, and the gold discovery.

 

History Mystery Camp Kit

Campers learn about symbolism, secret codes, and uncover clues to solve Sacramento mysteries using 19th century detective skills. This kit includes invisible ink activities, fingerprinting, an archaeology kit, and even a make-your-own time capsule!

 

Life Long Ago Camp Kit

A fun interactive kit designed for campers to experience what life was like for people who lived in the 1800’s. This kit includes materials to make candles, learn to sew, try 19th century photography methods, and play 19th century games!

 

Home Edition: Deluxe Camp Kits  

Our Home Edition: Deluxe Camp Kits option includes daily virtual instruction and social hour for all our campers! Tune in from 10-11am and 2-3pm Monday through Friday the week of camp for an interactive history lesson and activity instruction. Our camp staff will be teaching live from different historic places around Sacramento. Campers will receive the camp kit that corresponds to their week’s theme. In addition, campers are encouraged to tune-in for our “lunch social hour” happening between 12-1pm everyday where campers can get to know each other, the staff, and participate in a game or activity. The Home Edition: Deluxe Camp Kits cost $100 for members and $125 for non-members. Purchase one, two, or all three!

June 22-26 – History Alive!

This fun theatrical camp invites campers to learn about Sacramento before and up to the California Gold Rush. July 6-10- History Mystery!

In our Home Edition: Camp Kits Plus version, campers are guided through the activities while our Camp Counselors are onsite at different historic Sacramento locations!

 

July 13-17- Life Long Ago!

Campers will be guided through what life was like in Sacramento during the 1800’s. This is a fun interactive camp and kit designed for campers to see historic parts of their city and learn new skills. In the Home Edition: Camp Kits Plus version, campers are guided through candle making, soap felting, sewing, photography, and much more!

 

In-Person Camps

Our in-person camps will take place in Old Sacramento at our Living History Center and outdoors. These camps are limited to 10 campers and will strictly follow all CDC, city, county, and state health guidelines. Because of this, field trips and other group outings that usually occur at our camps may not happen. We are offering in-person options on a very limited basis and expect them to fill up quickly. You can ask to be put on a waitlist by email at shm-education@sachistorymuseum.org. The In-Person Camps cost $180 for Museum members and $225 for non-members.  

We offer extended care from 8:00am-9:00am and 4:00pm-5:30pm. The cost is $30 per day or $125 per week. Extended care may be added now or at a later date after the camper is registered.

July 20-24- History Mystery

Campers will uncover clues and solve Sacramento mysteries using 19th century detective skills.

 

July 27-31- Life Long Ago

A fun camp designed for kids to experience what life was like for people who lived in the 1800’s. Campers will dress up, make candles, learn to sew, play 19th century games and much more!

 

June 29-July 1 – Get to Know Your City! (Virtual Only) Camp

This new virtual camp option explores parts of Sacramento you may not have seen before! From behind-the-scenes in the Old Sacramento Underground to exploring little known parts of the History City Cemetery to going into the collections at the Center for Sacramento History you are sure to see something new! This camp does NOT come with a kit but does have follow-along worksheets and activities. The camp will be “webinar” style where our participants will see various presenters but not each other. Campers will get to ask questions virtually. Cost for this camp is $45.
