Comics are as old as recorded history, and a surprisingly big part of the Old West. Join the Sacramento History Museum and Eben Burgoon for How the West Was Drawn! – A hands-on, visual storytelling workshop tracing the lineage from the 1800s dime novel to the graphic novel of today.

Did you know we have different day camps for different aged kids?  From STEM History, June 30, Ages 10-13, Immigration & Heading West – July 19, Ages 6-9 and July 21, Ages 10-13, AND the California Gold Rush – Monday, July 25, Ages 6-9, and Tuesday, July 26, Ages 10-13. These camps are fun for everyone!

Go Underground 7-days-a-week! Mondays through Thursdays at 1 and 2:30 PM, Fridays at 11 AM, 12:30 and 2 PM. Tours run Saturdays starting at 10:30 AM, and on Sunday tours depart at 10:30 AM, 11, noon, 12:30, 1:30 and 2 PM. Tours include museum admission!

Gather your family and friends to play SacTown History Quest! It’s a summertime history hunt, and Sacramento is a gold mine – full of history from the Gold Rush to yesterday. With a custom map and smartphone app, you’ll hunt for clues in downtown Sacramento. Discover it!

Our latest exhibit, with highlights from the Eleanor McClatchy Collection, includes items such as original Gold Rush era maps showing where gold could be found, letter sheets from 1850s miners, a page from the Gutenberg Bible, and dime novels from the 1870s and 1880s.
